On January 16 in Ivanhoe, the Hastings Stewardship Council kicks off their Winter Speaker Series 2020 with Professor Warren Mabee, Director of Queen's Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy.
Climate change continues to have an enormous impact on Canada and the world. Dr. Mabee will look at the ways in which Canadian governments are trying to respond. Controversial policies such as carbon taxes will be explored. Other alternatives may have more impact, including the use of bio-based building products. Can we use more wood in place of concrete, steel and plastics?
The role of individual Canadians in the fight against climate change will also be addressed. What individual commitments can we make that can significantly contribute to our goals?
Dr. Warren Mabee is Associate Dean and Director of the School of Policy Studies at Queen's University as well as the Canada Research Chair in Renewable Energy Development and Implementation, and the Director of the Queen's Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy. Many audiences have enjoyed Dr. Mabee’s talks on the intersection of bioenergy, forestry and environmental management.
Join us on Thursday, January 16 from 7 to 9 pm at the Huntingdon Veterans Community Hall, 11379 Highway 62, in Ivanhoe. The cost is $5 (or a donation); children are free. For more information, contact Ray Wellman at 613-848-7697 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Also visit hastingsstewardship.ca.
