Hawkins Bay Bridge Update

In June, the Municipality of Tweed closed the Hawkins Bay Bridge.  While completing the 2018 Bridge Study, Engineers found significant deterioration to the steel stringers and wooden deck compared to the 2016 Bridge Study and recommended the immediate closure of the bridge.

Council has researched all options for providing access to the residents in this area and decided to replace the Hawkins Bay Bridge.  Council passed a resolution to at the first Council Meeting in August to submit an application for funding through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) to replace the bridge.  The application was submitted August 27th.  If successful, the bridge will be replaced during the 2019 construction season.
