The Coalition for Improved Mental Health Services Advocates for Enhanced Mental Health Support at AMO 2025

Councillor Peter Valiquette of the Municipality of Tweed attended the 2025 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference to advocate for stronger mental health services in Central Hastings.

Representatives from the Coalition for Improved Mental Health Services highlighted the urgent need for expanded and integrated care in rural communities including Centre Hastings, Madoc Township, Marmora and Lake, Stirling, and Tweed.

Speaking on behalf of the Coalition and Gateway Community Health Centre, Councillor Valiquette emphasized the growing demand for mental health support, the challenges of rural access, and the community’s readiness to implement solutions.

“We’re here to be the voice for those who are silent and suffering,” said Valiquette. “Our community is ready to lead the way in building a more equitable and responsive mental health system.”

The delegation called on the Ministry of Health, Mental Health and Addictions to review and support their submitted business case, which outlines a comprehensive strategy to improve care for thousands of residents in the region
