Victoria Street Fire

Media Release – March 10, 2021

Victoria Street Fire

At 6 am this morning the Tweed Fire Department was called out to a fire at the Tweedsmuir Hotel.  The building was fully engaged when they arrived.  Fire fighters remain on scene fighting the blaze.

Victoria Street is closed from River Street to Bridge Street West.  Detour routes are setup on Bridge Street West and River Street West for those travelling through town.  OPP are rerouting transport traffic at the 401 and Highway 7 entrances to Highway 37.

Any residents with breathing issues are asked to stay indoors as there is much smoke from the blaze.  Also, we ask that any onlookers stay back from the scene to allow for emergency response crews to do their jobs.

Any residents who live close to the site and have any concerns or are experiencing any flooding, the Lions Hall has been opened as a shelter site.  There will be water available.  Anyone who has been evacuated must register at the Lions Hall to ensure all residents are accounted for.

The Municipal Council meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled.  Visit out website tweed.ca for the new date.

If you require additional information or have any concerns, please contact the office at 613-478-2535. Updated municipal information is on our website.

Jo-Anne Albert, Mayor Municipality of Tweed
