Emergency Preparedness Week Across Ontario May 5-11

The Municipality of Tweed recognizes Emergency Preparedness Week (May 5-11) and encourages all residents to plan for unpredictable events.

In a release from the Ministry of Community Safety; Deputy Chief of Program Development Tom Kontra explains "Ontario's focus this year is reaching seniors and teaching them about the importance of emergency preparedness".  He continues; "This means considering their specific needs in emergency preparedness, and providing them with the information they need to be more resilient".

More information from the province and emergency preparedness week may be found here.

In Hastings County, residents are encouraged to plan in order to cope for the first 72 hours following an emergency.  It is during this time that first responders will be prioritizing calls, and may not be able to assist you with the same service as in a normal period of time. You can access the County of Hastings' plan here.

The Municipality of Tweed encourages everyone to:

1. Have a plan, including two safe locations.

2. Build a kit, with food, water, batteries, first aid materials, and a flash light.

3. Be informed, stay up to date on the status of any emergency.
