Tweed Celebrates its Educational History This Weekend Out of the past and into the future

In the fall of 2013 the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board will be opening a new public school in the Municipality of Tweed.  Although the school will bring forth new opportunity, it will also mark the end of an era for S.H. Connor School and Tweed-Hungerford Senior Public School.  A group of staff, parents and former teachers with fond memories of these schools have come together to plan a celebration of the education history of this community.  On behalf of the school council and closure event committee the Municipality of Tweed would like to invite the community to take part in the activities:

Date: Saturday May 25, 2013
Open House: Tweed Hungerford and S.H. Connor - 2:00-5:00pm
Land O Lakes Curling Club: Social - 4:00-10:00pm

"Schools are much more than a place of learning made merely of bricks and mortar. Rather they are where we grow up, meet friends, and learn autonomy," remarked Tristan Lindsay, School Council Chair.  "These schools, as well as the former high school are full of memories. We want to set up classrooms according to different decades, and share stories, pictures, and experiences."

Committee member Barb Gunning states, "We would like to reach out to as many past students and staff as possible, and are asking for everyone’s help in spreading the word. We anticipate that the event will bring hundreds, possibly even a thousand people together to celebrate the memories".

The committee has also put out a request for memorabilia such as school pennants, sports jackets, yearbooks, pictures, and stories and more. If you would like to share please email at schoolmemories@rocketmail.com or visit the Facebook page at Remembering SH Connor, Tweed Hungerford Senior School and Tweed High School.
