At their June 10, 2025 meeting, Tweed Council passed By-law 2025-53, a comprehensive update to the Municipality’s Zoning By-law to help guide future residential development and housing options across the community.
The changes include updated lot size, setback, and building regulations for various residential zones, including:
R1 – First Density Residential: Adjusted minimum lot areas and frontages for single-detached homes, depending on whether the property is on municipal services.
R2 – Second Density Residential: Updated standards for duplexes, semi-detached homes, and boarding/rooming houses, including updated provisions for individual semi-detached units.
MR – Multiple Residential: Refined regulations for triplexes, fourplexes, townhouses, and low-rise apartments, including specific requirements for lot area, height, and number of permitted units.
These updates aim to provide greater clarity and flexibility for residential development while maintaining compatibility with existing neighbourhoods and infrastructure.
