Training Session for Volunteers to support Seniors and Vulnerable people and Provide Patient Advocacy

Training Session for Volunteers to support Seniors and Vulnerable people and Provide Patient Advocacy

Date:July 6, 2023
Time:9:00am - 5:00pm
Location:206 Barry Rd Queesnborough
St. Mary of Egypt Refuge is a Charity in Madoc, ON. Our goal is to The Refuge is a place where ordinary people come together in a beautiful, natural setting for respite and support. Many seniors in our community are isolated, lonely, and without help. Some are desperate for care and connection. Here is an opportunity to support your neighbour and remind them that they are valued. This is also a great opportunity for students who need high school volunteer hours as well as those who are going into a helping profession or the charity sector. St. Mary of Egypt Refuge and St. John the Compassionate Mission are working with Compassionate Community Care to establish a network of trained volunteers. Volunteers will meet with or call Seniors once a week in the Toronto area, or in Hastings County depending on their location. Tasks will include social visits but may also include going with seniors to appointments or helping with grocery shopping or housework. A training retreat will happen on July 5th and 6th at St. Mary’s Refuge in Queensborough Ontario. Here you will be trained to recognize possible issues that seniors may have. You will learn and gain the tools to be an effective advocate for others, especially when it matters most. The retreat will provide practical training, skills, and resources that can be used in ministry work, and personal and professional work as well. After this, you will be able to work with us to provide visits and phone calls to seniors in your area. If you are in the Toronto area, we may be able to give you a ride to the training retreat. Please contact us for more information. We look forward to meeting caring volunteers who have a heart for working with seniors!
